Attention all retired public school annuitants
Did you know there are 391 retired public school employees living in Limestone County, drawing from the Texas Retirement System. Did you know that 77 are members of Limestone County Retired Teachers Association.” lf you want changes in Austin with your health plan options, cost of living and salary raises, joining the organization gives you strength to push for these changes. Monthly meetings are held at 10:30, on the 2nd Monday, of every month, at the Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia. If you were a teacher, bus driver, clerical, cafeteria worker then you know the importance of helping children to read. Annually this organization collects and purchases books for the youth of Limestone County. Hundreds of books are given away. This year’s site is HEB on Saturday February 27, 2010. We are presently accepting gently used books. LCRTA has socials, excellent speakers, ( March 2010 “Importance of Legal Documents for Senior Citizens’’), a step program for fitness and volunteer hours reported to the state. All of these activities increase our voice with our legislators.
Our lobbyist says “ if your organization statewide has 100,000 members or more, Austin listens”.
You did not have to be employed in any Limestone County school to join. You just had to be employed, by a public school in Texas.
Since school retirees did not pay into the Social Security system, until the last few years, it is so important that those join together now to make changes.
Come visit and see friends and colleagues you worked beside over the years. Put some fun and camaraderie back into your life. We welcome the retirees from other places, who have retired at our lakes and surrounding areas.

Prop 11 Protects Your Property

The right to own and use private property is one of the most sacred rights of Texans.  The ability of government to abuse this right is one of the most frightening.
Texas voters have the opportunity to protect their homes, property and land by voting for Proposition 11 in the upcoming state constitutional amendment election on Tuesday, November 3, 2009.
Prop 11 will give homeowners and other private property owners peace of mind knowing government will be restricted from using the power of eminent domain except for truly public purposes.
It’s your land. Protect it with your vote.
Please join with me and the Texas Association of Realtors, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Wildlife Association and Texas Farm Bureau, along with a broad and bi-partisan coalition of statewide organizations and officeholders who are seeking to protect homeowners and private property owner rights by voting for Proposition 11.
