Robles, Speights named to Academic All-State team

Lady Cat softball players Mary Speights (now at the University of Texas – Dallas) and Michelle Robles were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Academic All-State first team for Class 3A. The young ladies were nominated by their coach, Steve Hogan.
Speights played both volleyball and softball for Mexia.
Speights played outfield and was used as a utility player as well, batting .300 with 12 hits, 10 runs and six RBI. She signed with UT-Dallas in May to play volleyball for the Comets.
Speights honors include, for 2012-13, District 19-3A All-District volleyball superlatives (Setter MVP), District 19-3A All-District volleyball academic first team, TGCA Class 3A All-State volleyball academic first team, TGCA Class 3A All-State softball academic first team. In 2011 she was named to the District 20-3A All-District volleyball superlatives (MVP), in 2010, District 20-3A All-District volleyball superlatives (Setter MVP) and in 2009, District 19-3A All-District volleyball academic first team.
Robles played outfield as well for the Lady Cats. She finished her senior year with a .250 batting average, collecting six hits, scoring eight runs and knocking in four RBI.
Robles was named to the 2012 District 19-3A All-District Volleyball Second Team and made the Academic First Team. She was also named to the 2012 TGCA Class 3A All-State volleyball academic first team.
