Fans at Thursday’s bi-district playoff game between Itasca Wampus Cats and Wortham Bulldogs had to bundle up in blankets and some even broke out the umbrellas to use as a wind barrier to keep the latest Artic blast from chilling them to the bone.
Meanwhile, on the diamond at Mexia’s Black Cat Field and with the game pretty much in hand for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Wortham’s Brandon Campbell decided it was time everybody got out of the cold.
Campbell took a play out of former Major League Baseball star Jackie Robinson’s book by stealing home in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Bulldogs a 13-3 run rule win, setting up a showdown with the Trenton Tigers in the Area round of the playoffs next week.
